Hi Everyone! I am new here, and I think I understand the conventions, but if I misstep I apologize and thank you for your gentle corrections :) So in the spirit of Halloween and with a nod to those popular sparkly ones - I am thinking of a word that rhymes with VAMPIRE Is it an edible plant that grows in coastal areas? 十一月 5, 2009, 11:57am (top)Message 3: SugarCreekRanchWelcome, flemmily! Is your word a place for roasting s'mores? It is not Samphire, tasty as that may be. And Campfire is definitely hotter rather than colder, but you're not quite in the lava yet. So not Samphire, Campfire not (I don't know how to do the strikethrough...tried pasting it in from word but it doesn't look like it worked..) Velcome (just trying to get into the spirit). Is it larger than a campfyre, on which we may farewell the dead? the HTML for the strikethrough is (strike)words(/strike) but with the ( replaced with Thank you very much! (please imagine Transylvanian accent) Although it is an excellent way to dispose of unwanted vampire corpses, my word is not pyre. Could it be the referee? Yankees fan eh? No, not the Umpire Phew. Hot today! I'm all sweaty? 十一月 5, 2009, 5:21pm (top)Message 10: StormRavenIs it a campfire, but really, really big, like for a pep rally? 十一月 5, 2009, 5:27pm (top)Message 11: flemmilyew gross...make sure you take a shower after you perspire :) You're getting toasty with that bonfire, but still not quite right. 十一月 5, 2009, 5:38pm (top)Message 12: rolandperkinsIs it an English county or a (with an adjective attached to it) U.S. State? 十一月 5, 2009, 5:40pm (top)Message 13: justjimMy guess was wrong? I sigh? 十一月 5, 2009, 7:03pm (top)Message 14: foggidawnIf it strikes back, will the Force be with you? 十一月 5, 2009, 7:52pm (top)Message 15: flemmilyNo not Shire (English, Tolkienish or otherwise), respire (although don't stop), or empire (be it Star Wars, Roman, or waist). 十一月 5, 2009, 7:59pm (top)Message 16: rolandperkins(That it isnʻt "shire" doesnʻt, strictly, mean that it isnʻt what I meant in #12). Message edited by its author, 十一月 5, 2009, 8:06pm. 十一月 5, 2009, 8:23pm (top)Message 17: flemmilyOops sorry, I was thinking of it as two separate clues and then I forgot about the second half! No it is not Hampshire, neither the New nor the original version. 十一月 5, 2009, 8:45pm (top)Message 18: SugarCreekRanchIs a way to book discount air travel, and also a way to grab a really discount car ride? eta: tyop, as jj would say Message edited by its author, 十一月 5, 2009, 8:45pm. 十一月 5, 2009, 9:08pm (top)Message 19: foggidawnIs it what Shakespeare said grew on his lady's head in Sonnet 130? (Edited to add, I guess this is similar to SCR's guess in #18, but I went to the trouble of looking up the sonnet number, so I'll let it stand.) Message edited by its author, 十一月 5, 2009, 9:09pm. 十一月 5, 2009, 9:10pm (top)Message 20: mirrordrumi hope some day to be as good at this game as jj and SCR, larxol and now flemmily. seriously, and this part isn't a guess, you rock. :) 十一月 5, 2009, 9:12pm (top)Message 21: mirrordrum#18 SCR, i'm so glad somebody else has to eta tyops. funny thing is, when i tried intentionally to spell 'tyops,' i typed 'typos.' go figure. ///no guess here--just whittering/// 十一月 5, 2009, 9:23pm (top)Message 22: StormRavenIs it an instrument to play to accompany a group of singers raising hymns to my greatness while an out of control blaze rages through Rome? (That's three guesses for those counting). 十一月 5, 2009, 10:17pm (top)Message 23: justjim//My guess at #13 wasn't respire, but I guess it wasn't your word either.// The first sprout of a seed? 十一月 5, 2009, 11:20pm (top)Message 24: flemmily>18 Either way it's a steal! But no, not hotwire Neither is it black wire, or even just plain wire for that matter - and if that's how Shakespeare talks about his mistress, I'd hate to hear how he describes his wife :) Mirrordrum thanks for the compliment! I'm loving this game; I'm only sorry I didn't find this group sooner. I must say though I can't imagine how to play this game without the internets - I've learned quite a bit about biology already (thanks klarusu and justjim) ... ooo now that I think about it, I hope it's ok to research? Besides I'm in library school and it's helping me hone my skills... Skills I will need if I ever reach what I ASPIRE to and become a librarian. And no, that's not it either. StormRaven whew and if I am correct it is not A lyre you play with a choir during the fire justjim you developed plumule (doesn't that sound like a great insult? no offense, I just wanted to use it) I am so sorry I missed suspire at #13 (was that it? You're right, not my word), but I hope acrospire was your (totally radicle!) word at #23. Its not what I'm thinking of either though. So none of those, although one was very very close, just a little bit Away. *Edited not for tyops, but because I forgot Hampshire. Again! Message edited by its author, 十一月 5, 2009, 11:31pm. 十一月 5, 2009, 11:31pm (top)Message 25: StormRavenIn my British WWII era fighter plane, do I need to dodge incoming bombs while flying amidst the tops of cathedrals cursing the fact that my guns did not function correctly while my engine made loud banging noises? (That's five guesses). 十一月 6, 2009, 10:08am (top)Message 26: StormRavenOr is it a porcine animated character created by Steve Jackson Games that stalks the dark panels of cartoons to suck the ink out of other drawn characters, reducing them to 1930s black and white forms? 十一月 6, 2009, 10:22am (top)Message 27: foggidawnIs it a boggy area where I might get stuck? 十一月 6, 2009, 12:15pm (top)Message 28: flemmilyHello! OK, if I'm unpacking this dense clue correctly it is not: Flying a spitfire while dodging crossfire around a church spire angry at a missfire during an engine backfire. It is also not An Phar, what a dastardly creature. And it is not a mire, although slogging through these clues is definitely complex first thing in the morning. 十一月 6, 2009, 12:25pm (top)Message 29: StormRaven28: You got the long clue, but your answer for the porcine clue isn't what I was thinking. They are creatures that would participate in the Masked Ace Raid. Meanwhile, according to Michael Martin Murphy, she got lost in a killin' frost, and ran calling for this. (Four guesses) 十一月 6, 2009, 5:42pm (top)Message 31: flemmilyay yi yi Hampires! That's definitely worse than pig-aliens, but not the word. Neither is it Wildfire, although I'd definitely like to leave this sodbustin behind and ride away on a pony. And it is not: Aquire some attire to match the sapphire I admire. 十一月 6, 2009, 5:59pm (top)Message 32: justjim//Wow! More guesses per line of text than I've seen in a game for a long time. We're not stumping flemmily (or 'Dances with Cats') though.// Need? //Trying to average out the guess density!// 十一月 6, 2009, 8:21pm (top)Message 33: flemmilyRequire? So it is not: To hire a squire who's situation is dire. This is true, I am not a liar. and neither is that my word. And I do not desire to ask about the prior friar who decided to retire someplace higher and drier. But it IS a two syllable word, the second of which appears more than once in the words below. 十一月 7, 2009, 3:02pm (top)Message 38: rolandperkinsThe singular of what, "a pair of" makes a useful tool? (Not even sure there is a singular). 十一月 7, 2009, 3:09pm (top)Message 39: SugarCreekRanchThis message has been deleted by its author. 十一月 7, 2009, 3:52pm (top)Message 40: mirrordrum#38 the singular refers to a person who does the action that led to the plural for the tool. :) is it that place of light painted by Rene Magritte? Thanks for being a great pacifier (?) jj. one more clue: I'm looking for an adjective/adverb. Message edited by its author, 十一月 10, 2009, 5:38pm. 十一月 10, 2009, 5:45pm (top)Message 56: rolandperkinsAmazed that I donʻt see this in the "not" list: Starts with a prefix, ends with what makes a car roll, and, as a whole, has a sort of -- well-- wholeness to it. 十一月 11, 2009, 2:29am (top)Message 57: flemmilyWe've gone this entire time without your word!
